Avatar: Fire and Ash Dominates Holiday Box Office
Avatar: Fire and Ash, the latest movie in the Avatar series by James Cameron, is doing really well at the box office.
In just two weeks, it has made $217.7 million in North America and $542.7 million internationally.
The movie had a strong holiday weekend, collecting $88 million over the four-day Christmas-to-Sunday period and $64 million on the weekend alone.
It held better in its second weekend, dropping only 28%, compared to its predecessor's 53% drop.
The movie is especially popular internationally and has the potential to become the first franchise with three $2 billion movies if it sustains its business through New Year's and early January.
The strong performance of 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' and other films like 'Marty Supreme' indicates a resurgence in theater attendance, especially for family-friendly and original films.
However, despite the strong holiday weekend, the overall domestic ticket sales for 2025 are only slightly better than the disappointing 2024, raising concerns about the long-term health of the theater industry.
