Canada Announces Retaliatory Tariffs as US Trade War Escalates

Canada and the United States are raising taxes on each other’s imported goods.

Canada announced new taxes on about 700 products from the United States.

These taxes will begin on September 8.

The rates will be 15%, 25% or 50%, depending on the product.

Canada says it is responding to new US taxes on Canadian goods.

Steel and aluminum will face the highest rate, while electronics and tools will face a lower rate.

Canada also announced money and other help for businesses and workers.

The two countries’ leaders are now in a more serious trade disagreement.
