Lawngtlai Bans Land Sales to Foreign Nationals
Imagine some people from Myanmar and Bangladesh are coming to live in a place called Lawngtlai in India.
The government is worried because they heard these newcomers are buying land to build homes and farms.
The government said that foreigners can't own land there.
A senior official, named A Zaithanga, made an order saying that people from Myanmar and Bangladesh can't buy or get land in that place anymore.
Even though there's this rule, people are still trading goods with Myanmar unofficially, even though there were earlier restrictions on trading.
This is because of a conflict between India and Pakistan causing essential items to be in short supply.
Lawngtlai district in Mizoram banned land sales to Myanmarese and Bangladeshi nationals.
The ban follows reports of cross-border influx and displaced persons seeking refuge.
Authorities noted that some foreigners were buying land for housing and farming.
The order was issued by the Senior Revenue and Settlement Officer of LADC.
Unofficial trade continues from Lawngtlai to Myanmar despite earlier trade restrictions.
