Kolkata Commission Orders Muthoot Finance to Return Gold or Pay Compensation
A woman in Kolkata pledged some of her gold jewelry to get a loan for education.
Later, she found out that the company, Muthoot Finance, had sold her gold without following the right steps.
She went to the consumer commission and told them what happened.
The commission looked at the case and decided that the company should give back her gold or pay her the money it's worth now.
The commission said this because the company didn't have good enough reasons for what they did.
So, the woman can either get her gold back or the money for it.
A district consumer commission in Kolkata ordered Muthoot Finance to return 11.1 grams of gold ornaments pledged by a woman for an education loan.
If the gold cannot be returned, Muthoot Finance must pay the current value of Rs 1.42 lakh.
The commission found that Muthoot Finance failed to provide evidence to support their actions.
The complainant's evidence was unchallenged and accepted by the commission.
The order was issued on June 30 by President A H M Rahman and member Dibyendu Goswami.
