Congressman Condemns DHS Deportation Graphic Featuring Mr. Singh

Congressman Condemns DHS Deportation Graphic Featuring Mr. Singh

A U.S. government department shared a deportation message using the name “Mr.

Singh.”

The message showed that person as a villain in a movie-style picture.

It told him to leave American roads and warned him to leave the country or face consequences.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said the message was racist.

He said Singh is a common Sikh surname used by more than 160,000 people in the United States.

He worries that the post could make people suspicious of Sikh and South Asian communities.

Krishnamoorthi said people should not be treated as outsiders because of their name, faith, or heritage.

The dispute happened while the Trump administration was increasing immigration enforcement.

The Department of Homeland Security’s stated position in the graphic was to promote deportation and self-deportation, but the article does not report a separate agency response.
