University of Arizona Rejects Trump's Higher Education Compact
The University of Arizona recently decided not to sign a special agreement offered by the U.S. government.
This agreement, called the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education, was proposed by President Donald Trump.
It would have given universities extra money if they followed certain rules, like not considering race or sex in admissions and limiting international students.
The University of Arizona, along with six other universities, chose not to sign this agreement.
They believe in academic freedom and want to make decisions based on merit rather than political priorities.
The university also emphasized the importance of international students, especially those from India, and assured them that they are welcome.
The university's president, Suresh Garimella, highlighted their commitment to research and community engagement as key priorities.
