CBI Court Rejects Bail Plea of Suspended Punjab DIG Bhullar
A police officer named Harcharan Singh Bhullar was arrested for taking bribes and having too much money and valuable things that he couldn't explain.
He asked the court to let him out on bail, but the court said no.
The court said he had been in jail for 77 days and that there was still more to investigate.
The officer's lawyers said his arrest was not done properly and that the CBI didn't have the right to arrest him.
The court also found that the officer was kept in custody longer than the law allows.
The CBI found a lot of money, gold, watches, and guns at his house.
The Special CBI Court in Chandigarh dismissed the bail plea of suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested in an alleged bribery case.
Bhullar's counsel argued that the challan had been filed and no further investigation was required, and that Bhullar had been in custody for 77 days.
The public prosecutor opposed the bail application, and the court rejected the request after considering arguments from both sides.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier declined to stay proceedings in two CBI cases against Bhullar, noting that arguments on the main matter had already begun.
The CBI recovered Rs 7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold jewellery, 26 luxury watches, documents pertaining to over 50 immovable properties, and four firearms with 100 live cartridges from Bhullar's residence.
