Berlin Pride Marches: Two Paths of Celebration and Protest
In Berlin, there were two different Pride events.
One was a big party with corporate sponsors, music, and fun.
The other, Internationalist Queer Pride, was more serious, protesting for equality, especially for Palestinians.
The police got involved, causing problems and stopping the second march.
Some people thought the police were unfair, while others felt the second march was important to show solidarity and make a political statement.
Berlin hosted two Pride marches on July 26, one organized by CSD Berlin and the other by Internationalist Queer Pride (IQP).
CSD Berlin's event was a corporate-sponsored celebration with club music and a festive atmosphere.
IQP's march focused on political themes including anti-racism, anti-capitalism, and solidarity with Palestine.
IQP demonstrators faced police intervention, including arrests and the disbanding of the protest.
Controversy arose regarding police tactics and differing perspectives on the marches' purposes and messages.
