'Failure of Governance': Jairam Mahato Slams Lathi Charge on Aspirants

Many students in the Indian state of Jharkhand were upset because they believe something went wrong with the tests used to fill certain government jobs.

They gathered near the Jharkhand Assembly building to call for a fair investigation, and police used force known as a 'lathi charge' to push them back.

Some students were hurt, and the police action took place after dark, which many people felt was unfair.

A political leader named Jairam Mahato said hurting peaceful students is never okay and called the police action a 'failure of governance.'

He visited the hurt students at Sadar Hospital and later talked with them at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.

Mahato believes the government had enough time to sit and talk with the students but did not take the problem seriously.

He also thinks there may have been cheating in some government recruitment exams, and he wants the CBI, an independent investigating agency, to look into it.

He asked the government to cancel some exams and to set up a special judicial inquiry led by a retired High Court judge.

Mahato told the students to keep raising their voices peacefully, saying their struggle will continue.
