Ukraine-Russia Conflict Escalates in 2025
In 2025, the war between Ukraine and Russia got worse, and more civilians were hurt or killed.
The United Nations said that 2,514 civilians were killed and 12,142 were injured in Ukraine, which is a lot more than the year before.
Most of these people were hurt in areas near the fighting.
Russia also said that Ukrainian attacks killed and injured many people in Russia, but the UN couldn't check these numbers.
Both sides are using more powerful weapons, which makes the war even more dangerous for people living in these areas.
Many people have had to leave their homes because it's too dangerous to stay.
Civilian casualties in Ukraine rose by 31% in 2025, with 2,514 killed and 12,142 injured.
Almost two-thirds of casualties occurred in frontline areas, with older persons particularly affected.
Expanded use of long-range weapons by Russia starting in June 2025 increased civilian harm in urban centers.
Short-range drones rendered many frontline areas uninhabitable, forcing people to leave their homes.
Russian authorities reported 253 civilians killed and 1,872 injured in Russia by Ukrainian forces in 2025, but these numbers could not be verified by the UN.
