Bank of Baroda Reduces Cheque Verification Threshold
Bank of Baroda is making it harder for bad guys to cash fake checks.
They're doing this by making people confirm details about big checks before they can be cashed.
This helps the bank make sure the checks are real and catch any problems.
Starting May 2025, checks for ₹4 lakh or more need this extra check, going down from the previous limit of ₹5 lakh.
They will lower the amount further in two steps.
Customers can submit information about the checks in different ways, like through their phones, the internet, or by visiting a branch.
If the information doesn’t match the check or there isn’t enough money in the account, the check won't be cashed.
This process helps protect customers from fraud.
Bank of Baroda is implementing a phased reduction in the mandatory threshold for Positive Pay on high-value cheques.
Positive Pay is mandatory for cheques of ₹4 lakh and above starting May 1, 2025.
The threshold will further reduce to ₹3 lakh and above from August 1, 2025, and ₹2 lakh and above from November 1, 2025.
Customers must submit key cheque details before issuing them to beneficiaries.
Cheques are cleared only if submitted details match the physical cheque and account funds.
