SAD Requests SEC to Extend Polling Hours
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab has asked the State Election Commission to extend the voting time for some local elections.
They want the voting to start at 7 am and end at 5 pm instead of the current 8 am to 4 pm.
The SAD believes this will help more people, especially those who are poor, farmers, and daily workers, to vote.
They also want observers and security to make sure the elections are fair.
The elections are happening on December 14.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) requested the State Election Commission (SEC) to extend polling hours from 7 am to 5 pm for the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.
The current polling time is from 8 am to 4 pm, which the SAD believes is too short.
The SAD argues that the extended timings will allow poor families, farmers, and daily wagers to exercise their voting rights.
The SAD also called for the implementation of safeguards including posting of Observers and adequate security to ensure a free and fair poll.
The elections are scheduled to be held on December 14.
