MO Directorate Opposed Army in Golden Temple Operation
Long ago, before a big event called Operation Blue Star, some important military officials didn't want the army to be involved.
They thought it wasn't the army's job, but a job for other people.
They told the top army leader.
The Prime Minister then talked to another high-ranking general directly to get the job done instead.
This happened because the army was being asked to do something for political reasons.
Former Army Chief Gen. VN Sharma revealed that the MO directorate advised against using the Army in the Golden Temple.
The advice was based on the belief that the Army should not be used for political purposes.
Gen. Vaidya was told by the MO Directorate that it was not the Army's role.
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi then approached Western Army Commander Lt Gen K Sundarji directly.
Gen. Sundarji decided to proceed with the operation after the Chief's reluctance.
