Canada Orders Hikvision to Halt Operations Over Security Fears
The Canadian government has told a Chinese company called Hikvision, which makes video cameras, to stop doing business in Canada.
This is because the government is worried about national security.
They looked at the company's operations and decided it could be a risk.
The government will also stop buying or using Hikvision products.
The company has been under scrutiny before, particularly by the US, because of its work in a region of China where there are reports of human rights abuses.
Canada ordered Hikvision to cease all operations in Canada due to national security concerns.
The decision followed a National Security Review under the Investment Canada Act.
The government will prohibit the purchase or use of Hikvision products in government departments.
The review's scope does not extend to Hikvision’s affiliate operations outside of Canada.
Hikvision has faced previous restrictions from the United States over dealings in the Xinjiang region.
