GMLR Twin Tunnel Excavation Progresses in Goregaon
Workers in Mumbai are digging a big hole in Goregaon to start building two long tunnels under the ground.
These tunnels will help people travel more easily from the west to the east of the city.
The city government is checking the work to make sure it stays on schedule.
They are using big machines to dig the tunnels, and one of these machines is already ready.
The other machine will arrive soon.
Workers are digging a lot of dirt and rocks every day and taking it away in trucks.
The project is expected to be finished by October 2028.
The tunnels will be part of a bigger road project that will make travel faster and easier in Mumbai.
Excavation for the launching shaft of twin underground tunnels is progressing rapidly in Goregaon.
The tunnels, each 5.3 km long and with three lanes, aim to improve east-west connectivity in Mumbai.
BMC officials are closely monitoring the project to ensure adherence to deadlines.
Two advanced tunnel boring machines are required, with one fully assembled and the second expected by January 22.
The launching shaft measures 200m in length, 50m in width, and 30m in depth, with excavation currently at 23m.
