Hyderabad Youth Trapped in Myanmar-Thailand Border
Some young men from Hyderabad and other places in India were promised good jobs in Thailand.
They went there but were instead taken to the border between Myanmar and Thailand.
There, they were forced to work very long hours, were not given enough food or rest, and were beaten.
Their families are very worried and have asked important people in the government to help bring their sons back home safely.
One of the families even talked to a news agency to ask for help.
They hope that the government will act quickly to rescue their sons.
16 Indian nationals, including three from Hyderabad, were lured with job promises in Thailand but enslaved at the Myanmar-Thailand border.
Victims were subjected to inhumane working conditions, including 18-20 hour workdays, physical abuse, and denial of food and rest.
Families of the victims have approached authorities, including Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, for urgent intervention.
The plight of the victims came to light on January 21 after Owaisi sought the intervention of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Victims are allowed to use the phone once a week, with the last contact with families being 10-15 days ago.
