8th Pay Commission: Higher increments could add ₹29 lakh

8th Pay Commission: Higher increments could add ₹29 lakh

Some central government employee groups want yearly salary increases to be bigger than the current 3%.

They have asked for increases ranging from 5% to 7%.

The 8th Pay Commission is still listening to employees and other groups.

It has not yet decided the new salary rules.

One example starts with a Level 8 employee earning ₹47,600 in basic pay.

If a guessed fitment factor of 2.15 were used, the starting basic pay would become ₹1,02,340.

With a 7% yearly increase, the employee could earn about ₹29 lakh more in total basic pay over 10 years than with a 3% increase.

This is only a mathematical example, not a promised payment.

Actual salary would also depend on allowances, taxes and deductions.
