Siliguri Civic Body Orders Puja Pandal Dismantling After Immersion
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has told all Durga Puja organizers to take down their pandals within a week after the festival is over.
They're doing this because stagnant water in the bamboo structures used to build the pandals can attract mosquitoes that spread diseases like Dengue.
Mayor Gautam Deb says they want to stop a Dengue outbreak.
They have a team checking for standing water, surveying homes, and cleaning up areas where mosquitoes might breed.
So far, only a few cases of Dengue have been found, but the SMC wants to be safe during the late monsoon season.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation instructed puja committees to dismantle pandals within a week of immersion.
The instruction aims to prevent water stagnation and vector-borne diseases like Dengue.
A meeting was held to discuss preventative actions.
34 dengue cases have been detected in the civic area.
Vector Control Teams will patrol wards and remove stagnant water.
