First Raptor Survey in Gujarat
A special survey is happening in Gujarat to count and study birds of prey, also known as raptors.
This is the first time such a survey is being done in the state.
The survey will take place over two days, January 24 and 25, in 26 protected areas.
A team of 180 people will count the raptors in the evening of the first day and then again the next day while traveling on defined roads.
The goal is to find out how many raptors live in Gujarat and where they are found.
This information will help in protecting these birds better.
The survey is being organized by the Birds Conservation Society of Gujarat, the State Forest Department, and a group called Raptor Network India.
They have been preparing for this survey for the past six months.
After the survey, they will have a better idea of the number of raptors and their distribution in the state.
