Chargesheet filed against 11 in Odisha's GRP constable lynching case

A police officer named Soumya Ranjan Swain was hurt very badly by a large group of angry people in Balianta, near the city of Bhubaneswar in India, and later died from his injuries.

The crowd got angry after a woman said the officer hit her and tried to hurt her in a bad way.

A special police team called the Crime Branch studied the case for about three months.

Then the team gave a big written report, called a chargesheet, to a court.

The report says 11 people are accused of being part of the attack.

Twenty people were arrested, but police said there was not enough proof against the other nine.

The report says the crowd tied the officer to a pole and beat him, and doctors found 21 injuries on his body.

The officer's family did not believe the woman's story and asked for a test to check if she was telling the truth.

Some police officers were suspended for not stopping the angry crowd, and investigators are still looking for other people who may have been involved.
