SC Warns Maharashtra Over Tree Felling, May Revoke Permissions
Imagine the government wants to cut down trees for big projects like a metro or a road in Mumbai.
The Supreme Court said that if they cut down trees, they need to plant new ones to replace them, which is called compensatory afforestation.
The court found out that the government wasn't doing a good job of planting the new trees.
The court is angry and may take back the permission to cut down trees if the government doesn't fix this.
The government now has to explain what it is doing by November 11th.

The Chief Justice of India, B R Gavai, was leading the bench.
