BJP MLA’s Garba Ban Demand Sparks Political Controversy

BJP MLA’s Garba Ban Demand Sparks Political Controversy

Usha Thakur, a BJP politician in Madhya Pradesh, wants non-Hindus kept out of Garba events.

She said this would prevent Hindu girls from being misled, but she did not provide evidence for her claim that 4.5 lakh girls eloped each year.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad supported checking people’s identities before they enter.

The group said this could help stop what it calls “love jihad.”

Thakur also said Garba should remain focused on worship rather than clothing, jewellery, and commercial activities.

Congress leaders rejected her comments.

They said she insulted Hindu women and should apologise.

Another BJP politician, Rameshwar Sharma, made separate remarks about Muslim youths attending Garba.

Navratri celebrations mentioned in the report are scheduled from September 22 to October 1.
