India Monitors Security Shifts as Warfare and Defence Transform
India’s defence minister said the world’s security situation is changing quickly.
He said India is watching events nearby and farther away.
He explained that fighting now involves more than armies, ships and aircraft.
It can also involve computers, space, information and electronic systems.
Drones and artificial intelligence are changing how militaries work.
He said countries need to gather information and make decisions quickly.
India is working to design and build more of its own defence equipment.
Singh spoke at Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026, which includes air forces from seven countries.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India is monitoring developments in its region and beyond as the global security order changes.
Speaking at Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 in Jodhpur, Singh described modern warfare as expanding into space, cyber, electromagnetic and information domains.
He said drones, artificial intelligence, non-state actors and threats to trade routes and sea lanes are adding uncertainty to the security environment.
Singh said future military strength will depend increasingly on gathering information, making decisions and acting quickly, rather than simply on the number of platforms.
He cited Tejas, several Indian helicopters and the Akash air defence system as examples of indigenous capabilities; the exercise involves air forces from seven countries.
