Supreme Court Reserves Verdict on Justice Varma's Plea
Justice Yashwant Varma, a judge from the Allahabad High Court, is in trouble because some burnt currency notes were found at his home.
The Chief Justice of India started an investigation, and a committee found him guilty.
Now, the Lok Sabha Speaker has set up another committee to look into his case.
But Justice Varma says this is not right because the Rajya Sabha rejected a similar motion.
He thinks both houses of Parliament should have agreed to start the investigation together.
The Supreme Court is now deciding if the Lok Sabha Speaker did the right thing.
The court is also looking at whether the rejection of a motion in one house invalidates proceedings in the other.
Justice Yashwant Varma challenged the constitution of an inquiry committee by the Lok Sabha Speaker to probe corruption charges against him.
The inquiry committee was formed under Section 3(2) of the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968.
Impeachment motions were moved in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the same day, but the Rajya Sabha rejected the motion.
Justice Varma argues that the inquiry committee is invalid because the motions were not admitted in both houses.
The Supreme Court is currently hearing the case and has questioned whether the rejection of a motion in one house invalidates proceedings in the other.
