Has Wi-Fi Changed Reading Habits on London’s Tube?

London’s Tube used to have very little phone signal underground.

Because phones were less useful, many passengers read books during their journeys.

Wi-Fi and mobile coverage now let people send messages, check email and watch videos underground.

This gives commuters more things to do besides read.

A survey found that 23% of Londoners usually read or listened to audiobooks while travelling.

Other figures show that many Britons still read books, so people may not have stopped liking reading.

Instead, the Tube may no longer provide easy, automatic reading time.

A book can still be carried on the journey, but it now has to compete with phones.
