Parliament Winter Session Begins Amid Opposition Demands
The Winter Session of Parliament in India has started with the government planning to introduce 13 new bills.
These bills cover important topics like nuclear energy, insurance laws, and higher education.
The opposition parties, including AAP, Congress, BSP, and CPM, want to discuss issues like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, the recent Delhi blast, pollution, and foreign policy.
They are concerned about the SIR process, which has led to the deletion of many voter names and the deaths of some Booth Level Officers (BLOs) due to work pressure.
The Prime Minister has urged the opposition to engage in constructive debate and not use Parliament as a platform for political theatrics or to vent frustration after electoral defeats.
The session will run for three weeks, and both the government and opposition are preparing for intense debates.
The opposition argues that the space for debate in Parliament has shrunk, and they want to reinstate the quality of debates and deliberations.
The Winter Session of Parliament begins on December 1, 2025, with 13 bills listed for introduction, including the Atomic Energy Bill and the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill.
Opposition parties demand discussions on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging arbitrary deletions and BLO deaths due to work pressure.
The SIR exercise covers 12 States and Union Territories, with the final voter list to be published on February 14, 2026.
Key bills include the Higher Education Commission of India Bill, the Corporate Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the National Highways (Amendment) Bill.
Opposition parties, including AAP, Congress, BSP, and CPM, have submitted notices and adjournment motions to discuss SIR, Delhi blast, pollution, and foreign policy.
