EPFO Corrects Errors in EPS Contributions
The EPFO has found mistakes in pension contributions where some employees were wrongly enrolled or missed out.
They have issued new rules to fix these errors.
For wrong enrolments, the extra money will be returned with interest, and incorrect records will be deleted.
For missed contributions, the due amount with interest will be added to the pension account.
Additionally, the EPFO will launch a KYC drive to return money locked in inoperative accounts.
This is important because these mistakes can affect people's pensions when they retire.
The EPFO wants to make sure everything is correct so that employees get the right benefits and their money is returned to them.
EPFO issued a directive to correct errors in EPS contributions, including wrong enrolment of ineligible employees and missing contributions for eligible ones.
Wrongly deposited amounts will be returned with interest and records corrected, while missing contributions will be calculated with interest and added to pension accounts.
The process aims to ensure accurate pension benefits and smooth services for members.
EPFO will launch a KYC drive to return money locked in 2.15 million inoperative accounts, amounting to Rs 8,505 crore as of March 31, 2024.
A dedicated digital platform and EPF Suvidha Providers will be introduced to simplify the process of filing claims and resolving issues.
