Ten Lions Found Dead in Suspected Poisoning Incident Tanzania
Ten lions were found dead in a protected area in Tanzania.
The lions were discovered on 18 September 2026.
Officials think they may have eaten poison.
They have not yet confirmed exactly what happened.
Experts are investigating the deaths.
The investigation will also try to find out who may be responsible.
The area has had disagreements between wildlife authorities and local nomadic people.
A separate group of elephants recently died from suspected pesticide poisoning near the Tanzanian border in Kenya.
Ten lions were found dead on 18 September 2026 in the Ndutu area of Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority said preliminary findings suggest the lions died after ingesting poison.
An expert investigation is underway to determine the cause and identify those responsible.
Ngorongoro has experienced tensions between authorities and local nomadic communities, including deadly clashes since a 2022 eviction programme began.
At least 20 elephants have also died from suspected pesticide poisoning in Kenya’s Amboseli ecosystem since June, though authorities have not determined whether the deaths were accidental or deliberate.
