Delhi Reinstates Medical Council After Year-Long Dissolution

The Delhi government has decided to put four new doctors on the Delhi Medical Council, which had been shut for more than a year because of money and management problems.

The new doctors are Dr Ajay Kumar, Dr Hansraj Baveja, Dr S. K. Tandon, and Dr Vinod Kumar Monga.

The council was closed in June 2025 by the Lieutenant Governor after complaints that it was not keeping proper records and was using money incorrectly.

Some people, like Dr Naresh Chawla, who used to run the council, are not sure if the new appointments will help because they were chosen by the government and not elected.

A special audit found that the council might have taken about 28 crore rupees without proper checks, and a former registrar, Dr Girish Tyagi, has asked a court to remove him from his job.
