New FCRA Rules Restrict NGO Medical Aid for Poor Patients

New FCRA Rules Restrict NGO Medical Aid for Poor Patients

New rules have changed how charities can use money received from other countries.

Charities must now register separately for different kinds of work, such as medical or religious activities.

This has made it harder for some groups to help poor people pay for hospital treatment.

Many patients in Rayalaseema had received help from the Rural Development Trust.

The trust has reportedly stopped paying for some treatment in Bengaluru.

This especially affects illnesses that are not covered by the Aarogyasri scheme.

Officials and reports say the rules were created because some organisations allegedly misused foreign money.

Local people want an exception for the trust because they say it is focused only on medical work.

A separate allegation involving a Ballari-based organisation also contributed to concerns about misuse.
