Congress pushes closer US-Israel defence partnership amid shifting opinion

Congress pushes closer US-Israel defence partnership amid shifting opinion

Congress is the group of people in the United States that makes laws.

For a long time, America gave Israel a lot of money — at least $3.8 billion every year — to help with its army.

Now Congress is thinking about changing that.

Instead of just giving money, the two countries would work together on new technology, like smart robots and tools that stop missiles.

They would also share secret information with each other.

The new plan has the support of President Donald Trump and Israel's leader, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Some people like the idea because they say both countries can learn a lot from each other.

Other people are worried because sharing so many secrets with another country can be risky.

The plan already passed one part of Congress called the House, and now it waits for the Senate to vote.

This is all happening while many Americans, especially young people, feel less friendly toward Israel after the war in Gaza that started in 2023.
