Sukhbir Badal Attacked in Gurdwara; Wife Thanks PM, Amit Shah
A very important leader named Sukhbir Singh Badal was hurt in India recently.
He is the head of a political party called the Shiromani Akali Dal.
While he was at a Sikh holy place called a gurdwara in the city of Nanded, a man attacked him with a special knife called a kirpan.
The police caught the attacker right away.
Sukhbir got small cuts on his hand and shoulder and was taken to a hospital.
His wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, thanked the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on the internet for calling to check on him.
The Prime Minister asked central agencies to help the police investigate.
The police are still trying to find out why the man did this.
This was not the first time someone tried to hurt Sukhbir Badal.
His family said that attacking someone inside a gurdwara is very wrong and against Sikh beliefs.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked with a kirpan inside the Mata Sahib Kaur Gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra.
The assailant, identified as 62-year-old Jaspal Singh and dressed in Nihang attire, was detained on the spot by police.
Badal sustained minor injuries to his hand and shoulder, including a wound of around five centimetres on his right forearm, and was taken to Yashosai Hospital.
On Friday, Harsimrat Kaur Badal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on X for enquiring about her husband's health and for directing an immediate probe.
The attack followed a previous assassination attempt on Badal outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on December 4, 2024, when he was performing 'sewadar' duties after the Akal Takht pronounced 'tankhah' on him and other Akali Dal leaders.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a full inquiry, and security personnel, including Inspector Santosh Kendre who was also injured, intervened to prevent more serious harm.
