CPCC Reports Mismanagement and Pollution at Dadumajra Dumping Site
Imagine a big pile of garbage where yucky liquid called leachate forms.
The people who watch over pollution in Chandigarh, called CPCC, visited the Dadumajra garbage dump.
They found that this yucky liquid was sitting around and even leaking out, making the area messy and smelly.
They also saw a lot of garbage that hadn't been processed yet.
CPCC told the city's garbage managers, the Municipal Corporation, that they needed to fix this right away.
The city managers said that some of what CPCC saw was actually rainwater and that they were working on building better drains and treatment plants to handle all the liquids and waste.
They promised to fix the slippery path to a treatment machine and said new construction would solve the problem.
CPCC reported mismanagement at the Dadumajra dumping site, citing leachate, filth, and unprocessed waste.
Inspections in July revealed leachate stagnation around the wet waste plant and oozing from the landfill's boundary wall.
CPCC noted unprocessed waste behind the mixed waste processing plant and difficulties accessing the leachate treatment plant.
The Municipal Corporation stated that accumulated stagnant water was rainwater and deployed suction tankers for removal.
The civic body assured that ongoing construction of drains and a new treatment plant would resolve leachate and rainwater outflow issues.

Stagnation of Leachate
CPCC's Findings
Inspecting team found stagnation of leachate in and around the wet waste processing plant and oozing from the boundary wall.
Municipal Corporation's Response
The stagnation was rainwater that accumulated in depressed portions; suction tankers are used to collect and treat it.
Inaccessible Treatment Plant
CPCC's Findings
The site where the 26 KLD Leachate Treatment Plant (LTP) is installed is not accessible for inspection and sample collection.
Municipal Corporation's Response
Due to high-intensity rain, a path made of stone aggregates became covered with soil, making it slippery and inaccessible, but maintenance has been done and the LTP is now accessible.
Unprocessed Waste and Filth
CPCC's Findings
The entire area was very filthy, and unprocessed waste was lying behind the mixed waste processing plant.
Municipal Corporation's Response
In rainy seasons, an access area is chosen to stock waste for processing due to hindrances in processing and vehicle movement on the unpaved ground.
