India's First Private Oil Reserve: Padur Project Details
India is building a new place to store oil, like a giant underground tank.
A company called MEIL will build it in Padur, Karnataka.
This is India's first privately-owned oil storage facility.
The government wants this storage to make sure India has enough oil during emergencies, like if oil supplies are cut off.
The government will help the company with approvals and pipelines, and oil companies will use the facility.
This helps India be prepared and gives the company a way to make money.
Megha Engineering (MEIL) won the contract for a strategic petroleum reserve in Padur, Karnataka.
The reserve has a capacity of 2.5 million metric tonnes and marks a shift towards commercial oil storage.
MEIL will build and operate the facility under a 60-year lease.
The government will help with approvals and pipelines, and has first rights to oil during emergencies.
India aims to boost its energy security by expanding its strategic petroleum reserves.
