India Tightens Sale Rules for Four CNS Drugs

India Tightens Sale Rules for Four CNS Drugs

India wants to make it harder to sell four medicines without careful records.

The medicines are flupentixol, zopiclone, gabapentin and carisoprodol.

They are used for conditions including schizophrenia, insomnia, nerve pain and muscle problems.

The government is concerned that some people may misuse them to become intoxicated.

If the proposal takes effect, pharmacies will need to write down who received the medicine.

They must also record the doctor who prescribed it and how much was supplied.

These records must be kept for three years.

The rules are not final yet because people and organisations have 30 days to give feedback.
