Gulveer Singh Wins First Indian 5,000m Commonwealth Medal
Gulveer Singh is a runner from India who competed in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
He ran two long races: the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters.
He finished third in the 5,000m, earning a bronze medal, and second in the 10,000m, earning a silver medal.
This makes him the first Indian to win medals in both events at the same Games.
His coach says he trains very consistently and has become a smart runner.
The races were very tough, with many top runners from countries like Kenya, Canada, and Australia.
Gulveer’s success shows that Indian runners can compete with the best in the world.
Gulveer Singh earned bronze in the men’s 5,000m at the 2025 Commonwealth Games.
He also won silver in the 10,000m, becoming the first Indian to medal in two track events at a single Games.
The 5,000m finish was a photo‑finish against Kenya’s Cornelius Kemboi, with Singh clocking 13:24.95.
Coach Scott Simmons praised Singh’s consistent training and tactical growth, noting his finishing kick still has room for improvement.
Singh’s medals signal India’s rising competitiveness in distance running, challenging traditionally dominant African runners.
