Heroin Seizures Reveal Twin Smuggling Routes Into Jammu
Officials in Jammu and Kashmir seized a large amount of heroin in two investigations.
They said the drugs reached the region through two different routes.
One route ran from Punjab toward Jammu.
The other allegedly came from Pakistan through the Uri sector.
A bus passenger was caught with heroin near Samba on September 3.
Investigators then found more heroin in Ludhiana.
In a separate case, heroin was found in a vehicle in Jammu city.
Four people were arrested in connection with the seizures.
Officials are investigating the wider networks, including their sources, buyers, financiers and possible links to terrorism.
The Narcotics Control Bureau seized 6.920 kilograms of heroin in two operations over the past two weeks.
Officials said traffickers used both the Punjab-Jammu corridor and the Uri sector to move drugs toward Jammu.
A September 3 bus interception near Samba recovered 522 grams of heroin from a passenger traveling from Punjab.
Investigators later recovered 197 grams in Ludhiana and arrested Aaqib Bashir; three Baramulla residents were also arrested in the other case.
Officials said drug proceeds may finance weapons purchases and alleged that Pakistan is trying to push narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir.
