Maharashtra Surveys Schools to Aid Single Mothers' Children
The Maharashtra Education Department is doing a survey to find out how many children of single mothers are in government schools.
They want to help these children with their education because single mothers often have a hard time making ends meet.
The survey is almost halfway done, and the rest should be finished soon.
Once they have all the information, they will think about what kind of help they can give, like fee discounts or school supplies.
Some groups and single mothers themselves say this is a big step because many families struggle to pay for school, and some even have to take loans or pull their kids out of school.
Having this data will help the government make better plans to support these families.
Maharashtra Education Department launched a survey to identify children of single mothers in government and government-aided schools.
Nearly half of the districts have submitted data, with the rest expected to complete the survey in 3-4 days.
The initiative aims to provide necessary assistance for the education of identified children from classes 1 to 12.
The survey was prompted by Sau Ekal Mahila Samiti, an NGO that approached the Education Minister for formal recognition of the issue.
Single mothers and NGOs highlight financial and social pressures, lack of awareness about existing schemes, and the need for educational assistance.
