New NCERT Class 9 Book Highlights Women Regional Warriors
A new Class 9 history book gives more attention to women rulers and regional heroes.
It talks about Queen Naiki Devi, Rani Abbakka Chowta and Queen Rudrama Devi.
Naiki Devi is described as defeating Muhammad Ghori in 1178.
Abbakka Chowta fought against Portuguese attacks along the coast.
Rudrama Devi led armies and helped defend the Kakatiya kingdom.
The book also discusses how these leaders governed and protected their territories.
This gives students a wider view than history focused mainly on Delhi-based dynasties.
The textbook is part of a larger curriculum update guided by national education policies.
The new NCERT Class 9 Social Science textbook includes Naiki Devi, Abbakka Chowta and Rudrama Devi.
Naiki Devi is described as leading the Chaulukya forces that defeated Muhammad Ghori in 1178 at Kasahrada.
Abbakka Chowta, who ruled from 1525 to 1570, resisted Portuguese naval expansion from coastal Mangaluru.
Rudrama Devi is highlighted for military leadership, defending the Kakatiya kingdom and fortifying Warangal Fort.
