Ayush Ministry research body, BIS sign MoU for quality standards
Two important Indian groups have agreed to work together.
One group studies Ayurveda, an old system of medicine from India.
The other group, called BIS, checks that products meet quality rules.
They signed a special agreement called a Memorandum of Understanding.
The goal is to make Ayurvedic medicines safe and trusted around the world.
The two groups will also create rules for other traditional health systems.
This was BIS's 100th agreement, but its first with an Ayurveda organization.
Many quality rules are already being worked on.
One leader said quality makes people trust a product.
The partnership will help India's traditional medicine be accepted globally.
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) signed an MoU to establish international quality standards for Ayurveda.
The partnership will develop standards for Ayurveda and other Ayush systems, conformity assessment mechanisms, and scientific validation of traditional knowledge.
The agreement is BIS's 100th MoU and the first to be signed with an Ayush organisation.
Ministry of Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said quality is the foundation of credibility and key to global acceptance of Ayurveda.
BIS reported 128 Indian Standards under the Ayurveda Sectional Committee, with 243 standards covering different Ayush domains developed in the last three years.
