Trump Administration Cases Face Dismissals, Dropped Charges and Setbacks

The Trump administration brought several important criminal cases against people who opposed or challenged it.

Some of these cases later ended without convictions.

In one case, prosecutors said a pool liner failed because of a flawed installation, not vandalism.

That led them to drop charges against former Olympian David Hearn.

Many cases involving alleged attacks on federal officers were also dismissed.

Sean Dunn was found not guilty after throwing a sandwich at an immigration agent.

A judge dismissed charges against Letitia James because the prosecutor was unlawfully appointed.

Another judge dismissed charges against James Comey for the same reason.

Critics said some prosecutions were being used to punish political opponents, while the administration pursued cases it considered justified.
