CPM launches Vijayawada civic election campaign, seeks development funds
The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, has started campaigning for elections to Vijayawada’s city council.
It says the city needs more money for development, as much as Amaravati receives.
Party members walked through several neighborhoods, spoke with residents and handed out pamphlets.
CPM leader Ch Babu Rao said governments had not done enough to address flooding, housing and other city problems.
He also said some planned bridges and transport improvements had not been completed.
The party says higher taxes and fees are adding pressure on residents.
CPM is talking with other groups about possibly joining forces in the election.
It has not yet decided whether they will run together in all 86 divisions.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has begun campaigning for the forthcoming Vijayawada Municipal Corporation elections.
The party is demanding funds for Vijayawada’s development comparable to those allocated for Amaravati.
Campaign marches in the old city and Krishna Lanka covered divisions 28, 29, 30 and 52, where leaders met residents and distributed pamphlets.
CPM leader Ch Babu Rao alleged that successive governments neglected civic needs, including flood control, housing, infrastructure and public transport.
The party is discussing a joint election platform with Left and progressive groups, including whether to contest all 86 divisions together.
