Pilots Group Objects to AAIB Summoning Captain's Nephew
There was a big airplane crash in Ahmedabad in 2025.
The group that investigates crashes, called AAIB, wanted to talk to the nephew of one of the pilots, even though he wasn't involved in the flight.
The pilots' group, FIP, thinks this is unfair and believes the investigation is trying to blame the pilots without looking at other possible causes.
They sent a legal notice to AAIB saying the nephew shouldn't be called because he has no connection to the crash.
The AAIB says they have the right to call anyone relevant to the investigation.
The pilots' group wants a court to investigate instead, saying the current investigation isn't fair.
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) sent a legal notice to the AAIB for summoning the nephew of a pilot involved in the 2025 Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
FIP argues that the nephew, Varun Anand, has no relevant connection to the crash and his summoning is harassment.
AAIB maintains that it has the authority to call any witness relevant to the investigation under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules 2025.
FIP has been critical of the AAIB's investigation, alleging it is biased and trying to blame the pilots without examining other causes.
The preliminary investigation report suggested fuel control switches transitioned to 'CUTOFF', but did not state who moved them, leading to speculation about pilot error.
