Nepal Flash Floods Evoke Hollywood’s 2012 Disaster Scene
Flash floods in Nepal produced frightening images of water rushing through mountainous areas.
People online said the images looked like a scene from the movie 2012.
In that movie, a monk sits in a temple high on a mountain.
He sees a huge amount of water coming from behind snowy peaks.
He rings a gong twice to warn others.
The water then covers and destroys the temple.
The Nepal images also reminded people of deadly disasters in Uttarakhand.
Those disasters included the Rishiganga tragedy in 2021 and the Dharali disaster in 2025.
Videos of devastating flash floods in Nepal have circulated online.
Many internet users compared the footage with a disaster scene from the 2009 film 2012.
The film scene shows an old monk in a mountain temple facing a massive wall of water.
The scene ends when the water engulfs and destroys the temple after the monk sounds a gong.
The Nepal disaster also revived memories of Uttarakhand’s Rishiganga tragedy in February 2021 and Dharali disaster in August 2025.
