Railway Federation Seeks Better Pay, Cadre Status for Drivers
Imagine train workers who fix the power lines, called tower wagon drivers.
They are asking for a better deal!
The group that represents them wants the Railway Board to give them official status, like other train staff, so they get fair pay and chances to move up in their jobs.
They should get paid the same as goods train drivers because they do similar work and training.
Right now, they don't have an official role in the Railway system which causes them to not be treated the same.
This group wants to make sure these workers are treated fairly and are motivated to keep the trains running safely and on time.
The All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) is requesting better pay and cadre status for tower wagon drivers.
AIRF says tower wagons are recognized as 'trains', so drivers should get the same benefits as other train staff.
Tower wagon drivers currently lack a formal cadre structure at the Railway Board level.
The federation is requesting the initial grade pay of Rs 4,200 (level-6) and running allowances.
AIRF believes this will improve the welfare and morale of the tower wagon drivers.
