Malaysian telemetry device sparks panic in MP village
A device called a radiosonde, which is used to measure weather conditions, fell from the sky in a village in Madhya Pradesh, India.
The device had a tag saying it was from the Malaysia Meteorological Department.
When the villagers saw it falling, they got scared and thought it might be something dangerous, like an explosive.
They told the police, who came and took the device.
The police said it was safe and used for measuring things like temperature and wind speed in the atmosphere.
Such devices are usually carried by balloons and can travel far from where they were launched because of strong winds.
The police asked people not to touch any such devices if they find them and to tell the police instead.
A radiosonde device from the Malaysia Meteorological Department fell in Markhandi village, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, causing panic among locals.
Villagers initially thought the device might be an explosive and alerted the police, who confirmed it was a telemetry instrument used for meteorological measurements.
The device, which measures atmospheric parameters like pressure, temperature, and wind speed, is typically carried by hydrogen-filled weather balloons.
Police believe the device traveled thousands of kilometers due to strong winds and jet streams in the upper atmosphere.
Authorities have advised villagers not to touch any such devices if found and to immediately report to the police.
