ECI Warns of Strict Action on SIR Hearing Irregularities in West Bengal
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has told the West Bengal government to take any problems or security issues during the upcoming voter list hearings very seriously.
These hearings will start after the draft voter list is published on December 16.
The ECI wants the state police to handle security first, but if there are any issues, they will step in.
They also warned that anyone causing problems on purpose will face strict punishments.
All hearings must be held at District Magistrate offices and must be recorded and saved online.
The ECI has given clear instructions to make sure everything is done properly and securely.
The draft electoral rolls will be available online and offline.
To check online, visit the commission’s website or the official website of Bengal’s chief electoral officer.
If your name is missing, you can attend a hearing and submit proof of being an Indian citizen to have your name included.
ECI directs West Bengal CEO to treat all irregularities and security breaches seriously in SIR hearing phase.
State police initially responsible for security; ECI will intervene if issues arise.
Deliberate irregularities by electoral officers will result in strict disciplinary action.
Hearings must be conducted only at District Magistrate offices, not at Block Development or Panchayat offices.
All hearings must be mandatorily webcast and footage preserved.
