Delhi's Sex Ratio Declines, Experts Express Concerns
A new report from the Delhi government shows a concerning trend: fewer girls are being born compared to boys in Delhi.
This means that for every 1,000 boys born, only 920 girls were born in 2024.
Health experts are worried and believe this might be due to families wanting to know the gender of the baby before birth.
The total number of babies born has also decreased.
However, the number of babies and mothers dying has slightly decreased.
The government is taking action to improve public health and to address the gender imbalance.
The sex ratio in Delhi decreased to 920 girls per 1,000 boys in 2024.
Birth registrations in Delhi decreased in 2024 compared to 2023.
Child mortality and maternal mortality rates slightly decreased in 2024.
The birth rate in Delhi decreased from 14.66 per thousand to 14.00.
Health experts are concerned about the declining sex ratio and potential prenatal gender testing.
