Nihal’s Blunder Hands Uzbekistan Victory Over India

Nihal’s Blunder Hands Uzbekistan Victory Over India

India played Uzbekistan in an important Chess Olympiad match.

The top two boards ended in draws.

Nihal Sarin was playing very well and reached a position where he was expected to win.

His teammate Gukesh offered a draw on another board because of this advantage.

Then Nihal made a serious mistake even though he still had plenty of time.

His opponent, Nodirbek Yakubboev, used the mistake to turn the game around.

Uzbekistan won the team match 2.5-1.5.

Commentator Vidit Gujrathi said nerves may have caused Nihal to rush.

The loss made it much harder for India to defend its title.
