India’s July 2026 Labour Market Improves as Rural Gains Lead

India’s labour market looked better in July 2026 than it did in June.

More people aged 15 and above were working or looking for work.

The share of people who had jobs also increased.

The unemployment rate fell from 5.5% to 5.1%.

Rural areas made most of these gains.

More rural women also joined the workforce.

Cities saw only small changes in participation and employment.

Urban women faced a higher unemployment rate in July.
